Derek Cornelius is a dedicated and passionate football (soccer)
player who started playing at the age of 4.
He uses both feet effectively and dominates with his stronger left foot. Derek
has played competitively for 10 years and practices and/or plays 5 times per
week with older players.
Throughout his career, he has played left full back, and currently he plays as an attacking midfielder.
Derek’s attacking style of play, shooting from distance, goal scoring
and ability to read the game, makes him an asset to his team.
January: Derek joins VfB Lübeck U-19 in Bundesliga, Germany
November: Trial with VfB Lübeck.U-19
September: Unionville finished 1st in U-21 Provincial, Derek selected U-21 Provincial League Most Valuable Player (MVP) at 15 years old.
May: Selected to Canada U-16 National Team for a tournament in Italy, Torneo delle Nazioni, see CSA M16 Roster. Scored 2 goals and was a captain for the team.
April: Invited for CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier Pre-Camp with the Canada U-17 National team, see CSA Announcement.
March: Invited to Hungary for trials with Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC and Győri ETC FC.
February: Selected for the Canada U-17 National Team, see Canada Soccer Announcement as an under-aged player.
In the Indoor season, Unionville finished 2nd in the top division of the Thornhill Indoor Men's league with Derek winning the Golden Boot for a second consecutive year, scoring 25 goals in 20 games.
Unionville finished 1st in the top division in the Thornhill Indoor Men's league with Derek winning the Golden Boot with 16 goals in 16 games. Derek is a key player in the playmaker position playing for Unionville. In the outdoor season, Derek scored 22 goals in 30 games helping Unionville finish tied for 1st in the Regional Men division and 2nd in the U-21 Provincial division.
July: Invited to play for CSKA Moscow in the prestigious Milk Cup Junior Division in Northern Ireland. Lead the team scoring 4 goals in the tournament. Milk Cup 2012 Junior Squads
Derek has been been invited to the CSKA Moscow Reserve Camp in January 2013.
April: Invited to play for CSKA Moscow in the Oveido Cup Cadete Category (1996), an international tournament in Spain in featuring academy teams including Barcelona, Porto, Athletico Madrid. CSKA Moscow lost in semi-finals in a shoot-out. Derek scored his first goal.
Won the Ontario Cup with Spartacus after scoring the opening goal. For the OYSL Season, Derek had a 115 % scoring average
with 15 goals and 5 assists in 13 league games. Overall, he lead his
team with 31 goals and 16 assists in 31 games which includes the Ontario Cup that is
a Provincial tournament. Derek also played for Unionville with the provincial and regional teams in U-21 Ontario Soccer League, both teams finishing 1st in their respective leagues. Derek also played several exhibition games with the York Region Shooters.

where he was selected to attend the National
Camp in Virginia, USA. From this camp, he was selected for the Elite Player Camp at the West Ham Academy in London, England 2011.
